Reactions has continued to trail the cancellation of Workers Day, otherwise known as May Day in Kogi state.
Residents of Lokoja, the Kogi state capital who spoke with our news crew said the decision made by the labour leaders in the state is a wise decision and supported.
Amina Abubakar, a local government teacher told our correspondent that she has not received salaries for a year and her name is still missing on the list available online.
Amina said she finds it difficult to feed her children as her husband is also owed 8 months.
Bala Sadiq noted that due to the non payment of salaries, he finds it difficult to pay the tuition fee of his children. Sadiq said the report cards of his children has been seized by the school authorities for no paying last term fee.
Halimat Bello said since the news broke out on the cancellation of the May Day, most workers in her area are confident that labour union leaders have not sold their rights for a pot of gold.
Our news crew gathered that similar action is been taken by labour unions in some state across the federation due to non payment of salaries.
It will be recalled that the organized labour in Kogi state on Friday cancelled the celebration of Workers’ Day otherwise known as May Day due to the screening review and complaints committee report and non-payment of salaries that has lingered for over 13 months coupled with the closure of state owned tertiary institutions without any serious commitment of government as well as other security reasons.
