Newly appointed Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Sports, Honorable Segun Olobatoke has urged various corporate sponsors including Dangote cement to support the growth of sports in the state.
Olobatoke, who spoke with sports writers in Lokoja yesterday to mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace assured all of governor Yahaya Bello’s resolve to ensure sports men and women get the necessary support to make the state and country proud.
“Governor Yahaya Bello is very keen about sports development in the state, stressing the potentials in sports and its promising benefits in improving the economic statues of the state. We think it’s important that young talents continue to have opportunities to participate and succeed in fields that are traditionally off-limits to them.
“The state government is extremely honoured that a global, multinational corporation like Dangote cement among others are resident in the state and recognise their commitment to offering new and expanded opportunities for children through sports to succeed on the global stage and to inspire and bring more young people to embrace sports as alternative to crime.
“The state government require the support and sponsorship of an industry leader like Dangote to send a powerful message about the growing appeal to tear down social barriers and stereotypes, while aligning with various business strategies and socially responsible investments.
“We are working hard to expand opportunities for more youths to participate in sports having the support of important sponsors like Dangote Cement, Bullet Energy Drink, telecommunication companies and other sponsors to support the state government new direction across both disciplines is fundamental to our efforts to maximize access for youths to be fully engaged through sports,” Olobatoke said.
