…warns against sponsored protests against screening exercise
Kogi State Government has insisted that the Staff Verification Exercise was the saviour of the State’s economy, saying it was a child of necessity.
Addressing members of the Club 20 during a reception in his honour at Mopa, Sunday, the Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo said the State suffered great financial loss as a result of the activities of ghost workers and unintended beneficiaries.
“Government is about to move on from the hugely successful exercise. We could not continue to waste billions paying unintended beneficiaries. The people appreciate how the Governor was able to lay the menace of ghost workers to rest.
“The present administration will welcome genuine complaints after the publication of details of the reports. However, we will love to place on record that government will use every legitimate tool at its disposal to protect the people against the activities of protesters which opponents of government are about to recruit. Nobody will be allowed to disturb the peace of the State.
“We are not unaware of the sinister meetings by the opposition to sponsor protests against an exercise other states are trying to replicate. We would resist this attempt. We won’t stifle the rights of the affected workers to appeal through well constructed channels”.
He urged the youth to key into the empowerment programs of the present administration in order to be self reliant rather than allowing themselves to be used by “selfish politicians”, assuring the people of the State that funds saved from the exercise will be judiciously used for empowerment and infrastructural development.
