Journalists Visit Orphanage as Kogi NUJ Kicks Off 2016 Press Week

The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Rashidat Bello, has assured orphans and the vulnerable in the society of the support of government in making their welfare paramount.

Hajia Rashidat gave the assurance when she led members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, on a visit to Margaret Garba Ohiani orphanage and less privileged home, Zango Daji.

The visit to the home marked the commencement of the 2016 NUJ press week. The press week is annual program of Journalists across country.

The Governor’s wife described the present administration in the state as one that is concerned about putting smiles on the faces of the downtrodden in the society, said she will through her pet project, strive to provide the enable environment for people who are disadvantaged, attain their full potential in life, assured of a working partnership that will make life meaningful for orphans and the disadvantaged.

The wife of the governor, who was represented at the visit by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ampitan Bolanle, called on well to do and those blessed to see the task of improving the lives of vulnerable children as one that should not be left in the hands of government, called on people to at all times be their brothers keepers.

While promising of government support to homes that care for vulnerable and orphaned children, Hajia Rashidat, urged people to show love and care to such persons as it will help breed a better society.

Earlier in his address, Alhaji Ali Atabor, State Chairman of Kogi State NUJ, said the visit to the orphanage was part of the union’s corporate social responsibility, said as part of the 2016 Press week of the council, it has earmarked visit to three orphanages across the state, commended Wife of the governor, Hajia Rashidat Bello, for being a worthy Ambassador of the union’s, said the union was inspired on the need for the visit by the humanitarian works of the wife of the governor.

In a remarks, Mrs Ejembi who oversees the Margaret Garba Ohiani Orphanage and less privileged home, said the visit has rekindled the hope of the home, commended the wife of the Governor, Hajia Rashidat Bello for putting the wellbeing of the less privileged her concern.

Items donated by the nuj to the home include bags of rice, indomie noddles, semovita, and other cooking condiments.

The wife of the governor was accompanied on the visit by wife to the Chief of staff, Mrs Onoja, SSA to the governor’s wife on media, Mrs Adesoro and othe top government functionaries.
