The need to foster unity among ethnic nationalities in Kogi State to enhance speedy development of the state has been stressed.

Peace Ambassador, Kogi State, Paul Adewunmi, who was the guest speaker at ‘‘First Kogi Peace Submit’’ held in Lokoja yesterday, explained that peace was crucial for the overall development of the state. He pointed out that peace is when everyone lived safely without fear or threat of violence.

Also in a paper presented by Dr. Ahmed Attah at the Summit, he stated that unity and peace are not negotiable if development must come to Kogi.

Attah, who is a medical consultant, expressed thanks to God for giving this direction under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello. ““On a day like this we are bound together by the vision and dream of our founding fathers and we can almost feel their presence as we stand to make bold steps into the future for strong, virile and united Kogi State,”” he emphasised. Speaking on the occasion, human rights activist and executive director, Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, CHRCR, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, urged that people invest in peace, noting that preaching peace without investment would not achieve the desired results.

Earlier in her address, the organiser of the event and the Managing Director of Bramak Events Enterprise, Mrs. Grace Samuel, explained that the main objective for the summit was to foster unity among Kogi people. Samuel added that restoring hope back to the state by supporting Governor Bello, providing solution to some of the challenges facing the state should remain the priority of both the government and citizens.
