Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Kogi state Chapter, has debunked rumours going round that Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has directed full payment of salaries to teachers in the state.

The association made this known in a press release signed by the Kogi State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Aloysius Okino.

Okino described the rumour as a mischievous and well calculated attempt to cause disaffection and confusion in the system.

“It is therefore in the figment of the imaginations of the proponent of this rumour to think that the chairmen are contributing money for His Excellency, this is most unexpected and unfortunate on the part of the caller who was out to blackmail the chairmen before the public”, he said.

“While we are not happy that workers or teachers for that matter are being paid percentage salaries, we want to state that the issue is beyond emotions and sentiments.

“We are also not unaware of His Excellency’s desire to give Kogi workers, teachers inclusive a comfortable standard of living and we are willing to support him in which ever way to achieve this noble desire.

“We also want to place it on record that full payment of salaries is a function of the money from the federation account.

“The chairmen are also working hard to review the situation so as to ensure that the proper thing is done, since we are not in charge of their salaries in the past.

The ALGON boss assured teachers that monies accrued to each council from the last allocation is still intact.

According to the press release, the local government councils are currently studying the payment chart provided by the last SUBEB Board, where it provided for 75% of the minimum wage as monthly salaries to teachers.

The ALGON boss assured teachers that  proper thing will be done within the available resource.
