Kogi Police Command Reads Riot Act to Commercial Motorcycle Operators

Kogi State Police Command has urged the Commercial Motorcycle Operators in the state to weed out criminal elements hiding within the Association before the police fish them out to curb crime rate.

The new State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, who gave this warning while speaking at a stakeholders meeting between the executive officers of Kogi State Okada Riders Association and the Police held at Command headquarters in Lokoja, stated that within three days in office, he had received four cases of armed robberies involving members of Association.

Ogunjemilusi who commended the efforts of members of the association for venturing into the business in spite of daunting challenges to make ends meet, noted that there are some criminals hiding within the association to perpetuate crime on unsuspecting members of society.

The C P explained that the meeting became imperative in view of the current security challenges in the Country and the need to conduct violence free general election come March 28th, adding that the commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators are stakeholders whose cooperation with police and other security agents will go a long way to curb rate of crimes in the state.

He therefore called on the executive members of the association to put their house in order before police intervention which he says, will not augur well with them as the command is determined to fish out all criminals and make the state a safe haven.

The Police boss also urged the commercial motorcycle/ tricycle operators to ensure proper registration of their Motorcycles/ Tricycles with the Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue and must possess valid identification card and reflective jacket within next four weeks.

He added that failure to comply with this directives by the members Association will draw the ire of police to invoke the full wrath of law against recalcitrant , adding the command will provide security and maintain law and order in Kogi State.

Responding, the State Chairman of Kogi State Okada Riders Association, Mr. Bamidele Olaniyan stated that most of the commercial motorcycle/tricycle operators are graduates from various higher institutions in the country who ventured into the business because of lack of employment opportunities
