Bassa LG Warns Against Influx of Fulani Herdsmen

Bassa Local Government Council says it has put in place necessary machinery to curb the activities of men of the underworld in the area just as it called on leaders of Fulani herdsmen to check the excessive influx of their kith and kin into Bassa land.

The Director of Local Government and Head of Administration of the council, Mrs. M.R. Duro-Dada who disclosed this during a peace and security committee meeting held at Oguma, recently assured the people of Bassa of protection of their lives and property.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the council’s Chief Information Officer (C.I.O), Mr. Mark Dogwo which was made available to The Graphic in Lokoja.

According to the statement, Mrs. Duro-Dada decried the recent incessant activities of the men of the underworld who terrorized sheria community and also operated along Gboloko-shintuku road stressing that the council would no longer fold its arms for such ugly situation.

She sympathized with the victims of the attacks, Mr. Rufus Okeke and Mr. Daniel Ali who lost his son as a result of injuries inflicted on him by the robbers and appealed to the people of the area to report any suspicious persons to the appropriate authorities.

The statement also disclosed that other crucial matters that topped the security meeting was the menace of Fulani herdsmen against the host community and the need for peace and unity in the area.

The DLG lamented on the relationship between the communities and the herdsmen just as she called for cordiality saying that both parties have a lot to gain from each other.

The meeting was attended by the Aguma of Bassa and chairman Bassa Area Traditional Council, Chief Gimba Keke Williams, Etsu of Bassa –Nge, Brig. General Abuh Ali (Rtd), Ohiegba Mozum, Alh. Ali Khalid Bukar and heads of security agencies in the area.
