The Deputy Director in the office of the Accountant general of the federation, Mr Dosunmo H. A has disclosed that there have been a tremendous increase in monthly federal allocation figures to all the local governments in Kogi state since 2007 till date.

Mr Dosunmu made this known in a response letter addressed to www.eaglereporters.com on a request for a breakdown of monthly federal allocation figure to all the local governments in Kogi. He said what each local government gets monthly is enough to effectively run the administration of the councils without any financial hiccup.

He therefore debunked the claim by local government Chairmen that reduction in monthly federal allocation figures to the councils in Nigeria have been the reasons why many of them couldn’t pay full salaries to local government workers.

In 2007, the breakdown of the federal allocation summary shows that three local governments in Kogi central top the lists. Okene LGA came first with total allocation figure of N95,551,638.92, Dekina N82,267,811.14, Bassa N76,836,939.23, Adavi N 64,359,517.72, Okehi N63,644,516.68 and Mopa Muro had the least figure, N43,876,256.59

In January 2014, Okene LGA top the list with total figure of N197,320,034.49, Dekina N189,194,646.95, Ankpa N192,805,398.93, Koton Karfe N168,486,099.80, Ofu N162,196,178.94, Okehi N158,136,818.61 and Ogori-Mangogo had the least allocation of N109,046,427.84.

In March 2014, Okene LGA had N214,944,223.84, Dekina N206,164,562.33, Ankpa N177,055,120.35, Koton Karfe N183,598,894.55, Ofu N176,724,636.83, Adavi N172,438,521.33 Okehi N172,237,419.85 and Ogori-Mangogo had the least allocation of N118,768,755.38.

In analyzing the figures, it shows that Okene LGA had 224% increases to what its predecessor got in January 2007, Adavi had 268%, Okehi 270%, Dekina 250%, Koton Karfe 294%, Dekina 250%, 269%.

It could be recalled that despite huge increase in federal allocation to all the local governments in Kogi state, Okehi local government owed 8 months unpaid salaries and this same issue is replicated across all the local governments in Kogi state. Despite the increase in the allocation figures, staffs of Okehi local government rarely get their full salaries and occasionally, they were paid 30% of their salaries.

Thus, the problem of full salary payment to workers is equally observed in Okene local government inspite that the council received the highest local allocations among the list of the councils in Kogi state.
