The Kogi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied the existence of crisis in the party over the issue of tenure of the state chairmanship seat.
In a statement issued recently in Lokoja and signed by the state secretary of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Egwu, said the tenure of the current chairman will terminate December 9, 2014, hence there was no need for crises.
Apparently, reacting to a publication in one of the national dailies, that the party is in crisis, Egwu said the state chapter of the party would have ignored the publication, but a response was necessary to keep the records straight so as not to misinform the public on issues of politics in the state.
The statement said “if there were to be any crisis in PDP in Kogi state, we would not have been speaking with one voice. This was glaring in the last elaborate ceremony to welcome the governor into the state after the Supreme Court judgment in his favour.”
He said the party is governed by a constitution and not by the desire of the people with conjured minds. He said that the party recognises two terms of four years each for anybody or executive that wishes to do so, based on the decision of members of the congress. He added that the current state executive has the right to re-contest whenever a congress is scheduled.
