The Kogi State government has distributed seven ambulances to Bassa, Kogi, Igalamela-Odolu and Okehi Local Government Areas for use at their primary health centres.

Commissioning the ambulances at the weekend, Governor Idris Wada, said they were part of his campaign promises to improve the health of the people.

He advised the benefitting councils to maintain the ambulances and use them for the purpose meant, saying they are to convey sick people from the rural community to health centres where they can receive treatment. The special adviser to the governor on MDGs, Yunusa Muhammed, said the ambulances were procured under the 2012 Local Government-Conditional Grant Scheme (LG-CGS) by the state office of the Millennium Development Goals.

He said apart from procuring the ambulances through the MDGs office, the state was engaged in construction, renovation and equipping of health centres. According to him, to fast-track MDGs activities, eight more local government areas (Mopa-Muro, Ogori-Magongo, Adavi, Idah, Dekina, Ankpa, Yagba-East and Olamaboro) had been approved from the 2013 LGS-CGS programme.
