Kogi State Flood Management Committee has held a collaborative meeting with critical stakeholders involved in disaster preparedness and responses as part of its preparedness for the mitigation and response to the predicted flood this year.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Abdulrahman Wuya who chaired the meeting on behalf of the State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, said the meeting was held to ensure proper coordination among the critical stakeholders involved in disaster management in the State.
Alhaji Wuya said that the State Flood Management Committee has through the meeting, succeeded in closing the identified gaps in the planning already put in place to manage the impending flood.
The Commissioner disclosed that the State has reviewed the number of proposed camps to 24 in the nine Local Governments expected to be affected by the flood.
He reiterated that Kogi State would not be caught unaware by the flood this year adding that necessary logistics were being put in place, while all the vulnerable people were being sensitized to move to safe grounds.
Among the stakeholder represented at the meeting were all the Security Agencies, the Health Sector, Water and Sanitation, Education, Red Cross and the media.
