LG Polls: Kogi Gives Public Officers April Deadline For Participation

The Kogi state Independent Election Commission (KOSIEC) has said public officers interested in contesting the forthcoming council election in the state have to resign  their appointments not later than April.

Chairman of the commission, Barrister Abraham Olaniran who stated this in Lokoja while speaking with journalists said the law states that public officers contesting elections must resign within 30 days to the election.

He said the local government election is slated for May 4 this year hence all public officers intending to contest have to resign not later than April 4.

The chairman said that the commission had already made public the timetable and guideline for the election, saying that security arrangement had been concluded with the relevant agencies for a hitch free election and that they have assured them of adequate security.

Olaniran further said that the commission had already contacted the officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of the commission’s intention of engaging corps members as ad hoc staff during the election.
