Okene Killings: Eziogu Clan Insists Karaku is Innocent

National Leadership of Eziogu clan of Ebiraland has affirmed their support for the embattled former chairman of Okene local Government, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar Karaku picked up by the security agents in the wake of Church killing in Okene in August.

A communiqué issued by the Group at the end of its delegates meeting in Kano signed by the President General of the Group Alhaji Zubairu Abdullah and made available to newsmen in Kano weekend, condemned the tragic killings of Christian worshippers and two soldiers in the volatile cit.

They  however described current attempt to rope the former council boss as “politically motivated”.

The Communiqué noted that some mischief makers and fortune seekers have turned the unfortunate incident to avenue of settling glaring political scores with perceived opponents exploiting government instrument to perpetuate cruelty.

“Notable Ebira elite have constituted a baseline for fabrication of false allegation against Hon Yahaya Abubakar Karaku in an attempt to douse his rising political stars in Kogi, adding that the former Council boss record of achievement spoke for him during his tenure as chairman of Okene local Government”.

“The scenario today is the glaring and unjustified hatred visited on the clan through lies and deceit, while those involved in the “pull him down” game left little or no room for security agents to conduct a robust investigations”.

The Group however commended the Inspector General of Police for deploying professionalism to get to the root of the matter, stressing that the initial report by the police that distances Hon Yahaya Abubakar from the killings is a welcome development.
