Kogi State government is set to partner with the Cassava Growers Association in order to increase cassava production in the state, the state Commissioner of Agriculture, Joseph Faniyi has said.
Faniyi said that the government is focused on transforming agriculture, adding that arrangement has been made to commence commercial agricultural development in the state.
In a statement signed by the ministry’s public relations officer, Onoja Dorathy, the commissioner stated this when members of the Cassava Growers Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit.
The statement said that 60 tractors, bulldozers and agro-chemicals as well as cash would be distributed to farmers associations in the state, saying that the state has already keyed into the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation programme.
According to the statement, the association, led by its chairman Moses S. Apinmodu assured the state that the association is prepared to assist the farmers to improve their cassava production.
He appealed to the state government to support the association to expand cassava production and to also reduce cost.
