The flagbearer of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kogi State, Chief James Ocholi, SAN, has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the need to use the forthcoming governorship poll in Kogi State to restore the confidence of Nigerians in our electoral system.

He noted that it was only when a leader emerged with the consent of the electorate that he would be accountable to them and advised the electoral umpire not to allow the will of the larger percentage of the people of the state who desire change to be subverted.

The guber candidate said that the people of the state were sceptical about the coming poll, due to the ugly experiences of the past where the exercise was characterised by violence, ballot box snatching and other malpractices.

Ocholi added that INEC has to go all out to ensure that the coming governorship election was free, fair and transparent, so as to restore the confidence of the electorate who, from all indication, have lost confidence in the electoral system.

He therefore admonished the electoral umpire against using ad hoc staff during the exercise and urged it to deploy its permanent staff across the country with at least eight structures of the commission to ensure that the votes of the people count.

The legal luminary assured the people of the ancient town that he would revive all the general hospitals in the state, as well as equip them with facilities, if given the mandate while the aged would be treated free.

The governorship candidate also promised to provide potable water for the community even as he pledged to provide other basic necessities that would uplift their living condition.
