The Zonal Competition for the North-Central Zone was held on Oct. 22, 2026, at the NILDS Headquarters, Abuja.
At the zonal contest, GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo, representing Kogi State, again displayed outstanding performance and emerged as 1st Runner-Up, while Government Secondary School (GSS), Kuwiri, Plateau State, emerged as overall winner and zonal champion.

Schools that participated at the zonal level were GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo (Kogi State), Redeemer Private Secondary School (FCT, Abuja), Government Secondary School, Kuwiri (Plateau State), Government Girls College, Makurdi (Benue State), and Crystal Comprehensive College (Nasarawa State), while Kwara State was absent.
The competition was highly contested and intellectually engaging.
The emergence of GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo as 1st Runner-Up has been described as a great feat worthy of commendation, as no school from Kogi State has ever advanced to round three of the competition in the past.
The achievement has projected Kogi State positively and brought the school to national recognition.
