The Controller of Corrections for the Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CC Hadiza Inna Aminu, has called on personnel to build stronger financial discipline through consistent saving and investment, describing it as the surest route to long-term financial freedom.
Aminu made the call while presiding over a sensitization lecture at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, delivered by Professor Abdul Adamu of the Department of Business Administration at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The session, titled “Small Money, Big Future,” formed part of the Command’s ongoing effort to help officers manage financial pressures and adopt healthier investment habits.
Addressing staff, the Controller acknowledged the difficult economic climate but insisted that saving and investing remain essential tools for financial stability regardless of circumstance. She praised Professor Adamu for breaking down complex financial concepts into practical steps and for widening officers’ understanding of personal money management.
Professor Adamu, a specialist in finance and capital markets, told attendees that building a habit of saving and investing is achievable at any income level and should not be postponed. He outlined a simple budgeting framework for staff to apply to their monthly earnings: 50 percent toward needs, 30 percent toward wants, 10 percent set aside for emergencies, and 10 percent channelled into investment. Sustained discipline in following this structure, he said, would gradually put financial freedom within reach.
“Financial discipline is very necessary if we must escape from being cash trapped and live within our means,” Adamu told the gathering.
The lecture closed with officers commending the session and committing to apply its lessons to their personal and household finances.
