The traditional ruler of Onu Egume/Okura District, His Royal Highness Ochimana Simon Anu, has raised the alarm over an alleged trend of kidney sales among youths in Egume community, reportedly carried out in exchange for money to buy motorcycles and other material possessions.
Speaking at the Onu Egume Palace, the monarch described the alleged practice as dangerous and unacceptable, warning youths against chasing quick wealth at the expense of their health, their future, and their lives.
According to a statement signed by Momoh Idris Ospaca, Media Custodian to the Onu Egume, the monarch also cautioned individuals allegedly working as agents for kidney buyers within the community to leave the area immediately or face consequences.
To investigate the allegations, the Onu Egume has directed the establishment of a security committee to look into suspected cases, with particular attention to youths and underage persons who have suddenly acquired expensive motorcycles.
The committee is expected to investigate the sources of funds used by such individuals to purchase TVS and Haojue Rubber motorcycles reportedly valued between N1 million and N2 million, and to determine whether any criminal or exploitative activities are linked to the acquisitions.
The traditional ruler expressed concern over what he described as a growing desire among some youths to acquire material wealth without engaging in legitimate means of livelihood. He urged young people in the community to pursue lawful sources of income, acquire useful skills, and plan for their future rather than engage in activities capable of causing permanent damage to their health.
Anu further warned that anyone found to be involved in the alleged kidney-selling activities would face sanctions in accordance with the traditional laws and customs of the community.
He also appealed to parents, community leaders, and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that could expose young people to exploitation or endanger their lives.
The traditional ruler stressed that human life and health must take precedence over material possessions, urging youths not to be deceived by the apparent wealth of others or the lure of quick money.
He reaffirmed his condemnation of any alleged kidney-selling activities in Egume and directed that such transactions must stop immediately.
