The political landscape in Kogi State witnessed a major realignment on Thursday as the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, spearheaded a massive defection rally in Odo-Ape Ward, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, welcoming thousands of members from various political parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The high-profile political mobilization reinforced the APC’s growing grassroots dominance ahead of future electoral contests, with Hon. Jones describing the influx of new members as a vote of confidence in the leadership and developmental agenda of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Welcoming the defectors, the Commissioner assured them of equal opportunities and full integration into the APC, stressing that the party remains committed to inclusiveness, unity, and people-oriented governance. He urged members to set aside political differences and embrace peace, emphasizing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony and collective purpose.

Hon. Jones also called on the decampees and the people of Kabba/Bunu to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Ododo and the APC at all levels, noting that the administration’s Renewed Hope-driven policies continue to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy across Kogi State.

Among the prominent figures who joined the APC were: Hon. Kadiri John, Pastor Kehinde Olorunmosunle, Mr. Dare Enimola, Chief Alemeru Dele, Mr. Olorunmola Ola, Mrs. Aiyedero Omolayo, and Mrs. Yemi Olorunmola

They were joined by thousands of supporters, in what observers described as a significant political boost for the ruling party in the state.

Political watchers say the rally further cements the APC’s grip on Kabba-Bunu and the wider Kogi political space, positioning the party favorably ahead of upcoming electoral contests. With the ranks of the party swelling at the grassroots level, the defection is being read as an endorsement of the Ododo administration’s performance so far and a signal of shifting political loyalties in the local government area.
