The member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Arc.) Salman Idris, has strongly condemned the deadly attack by armed bandits on the Ayegunle-Igun Community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, describing the incident as “barbaric, wicked and unacceptable.”
The attack, which claimed the lives of three people — including a head teacher — left several others abducted.
The lawmaker expressed deep sadness and outrage over what he termed a “direct assault on the peace, security and collective well-being” of the people of Kabba-Bunu.
Among those killed was a head teacher, whose death Hon. Idris described as particularly painful.
“The loss of these innocent lives, particularly that of a dedicated educator who devoted his life to shaping the future of our children, is painful and heartbreaking,” he said in a statement.
The lawmaker offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Ayegunle-Igun Community, praying that the Almighty grants the departed eternal rest and gives their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
Addressing the families of those still in captivity, Hon. Idris offered reassurances that efforts were actively underway to secure their safe release.
“I have been in close contact with relevant security agencies and government authorities regarding this unfortunate development,” he stated, urging the families to remain hopeful.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that both the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government remain committed to addressing the security situation. According to him, measures are being intensified to rescue the abducted victims and strengthen security across vulnerable communities to prevent a recurrence.
He called on residents of Ayegunle-Igun, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, and the wider Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies.
“This is a time for unity, vigilance and cooperation with security agencies,” he said. “I urge residents to continue to provide useful information that may aid ongoing rescue and security operations.”
Hon. Idris also called on security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending those responsible for the attack.
“I strongly condemn this cowardly attack in its entirety and call on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to the protection of lives and property across his constituency, pledging to continue working with all relevant authorities to ensure community safety.
