The management of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has announced the approval of a special intervention grant by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Abuja, for the establishment of a TETFund Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences (ARCS) in the University.
Dr Tosin Olagunju, Director, Directorate of Strategic Communication and Corporate Documentation, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the approval was conveyed in an official letter dated 27th April, 2026 and signed by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny S. T. Echono.

“The intervention, which is valued at N3,000,000,000.00, is aimed at supporting cutting-edge research and innovation in the rapidly evolving fields of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences.
“The establishment of the Centre represents a major milestone in the University’s quest to position itself as a leading institution for technological innovation, digital transformation, advanced research and solution-driven scholarship in Nigeria and beyond.
“The Centre is expected to provide a robust platform for interdisciplinary research, technological development, capacity building and strategic collaborations that will address contemporary national and global challenges,” he said.
Prof. Olagunju said the centre will also strengthen the University’s contributions to manpower development in emerging technologies and support the Federal Government’s drive toward a knowledge-based economy.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Gbega Ibileye, expressed profound appreciation to TETFund for the confidence reposed in Federal University Lokoja and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to prudent management, transparency, accountability and strict adherence to all stipulated guidelines governing the implementation of the intervention.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the establishment of the Centre will not only expand the frontiers of research and innovation within the University but will also create opportunities for scholars, researchers, students and industry stakeholders to engage in transformative technological solutions capable of impacting society positively.
