The APC Aggrieved Movement, led by Hon. Abdullahi Bello Itopa, has called on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside key anti-corruption and security agencies including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to urgently intervene and halt the Senate ambition of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

According to the group, Bello’s candidacy poses a serious reputational risk to the APC due to ongoing corruption allegations and legal battles linked to his tenure. They stressed that he is currently facing multiple cases instituted by the EFCC over alleged misappropriation of billions of naira, making his ambition both controversial and damaging to public trust.

The movement rejected narratives suggesting that his ambition represents the interest of the Ebira people, emphasizing that the region has produced credible leaders long before him. They cited respected figures such as Adamu Atta and David Bamigboye as examples of integrity and distinguished leadership.

Beyond corruption concerns, the group accused Bello of running an administration characterized by political suppression, intimidation, and exclusion. They alleged that several founding members of the APC in Kogi Central were sidelined under his leadership, creating deep divisions within the party.

The statement further named key individuals who served under Bello, including Yakubu Oseni and Muhammed Jamiu Asuku, alleging that many officials operated under fear and lacked independence. They also referenced allegations of property seizures involving political associates.

The group also raised concerns about Bello’s past political conduct, including his role during the APC presidential primaries and the tense atmosphere surrounding elections in Kogi State, urging Nigerians to reflect on those moments.

Drawing a national parallel, the movement warned that electing such a controversial figure into the Senate could trigger instability similar to what was witnessed under Bukola Saraki during the 8th National Assembly leadership crisis.

Highlighting alternative aspirants, the group mentioned Momoh Yusuf Obaro and Mr. Adoke as credible options who have already picked nomination forms under the APC.

They further pointed out concerns over political imbalance within Okene Local Government, noting that wards such as Gasaa, Upogoro, and Ozuja/Abuga have already produced several key office holders — including a former governor, chief of staff, accountant general, party chairman, and multiple commissioners.

“We are not political slaves,” the statement declared, calling for fairness, inclusiveness, and equitable distribution of political opportunities.

In conclusion, the APC Aggrieved Movement urged the APC leadership to prioritize integrity, unity, and credibility in candidate selection, warning that Nigeria’s democracy must not be undermined by individuals facing serious allegations and deep public distrust.
