The Chairman of the Idris HK Foundation, Idris Husseini Kashim, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, stating that his decision is rooted in a lifelong commitment to humanity over personal luxury.
Idris made the declaration on Sunday at the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat in Sabongari, Idah, where party stakeholders, leaders and supporters from across the district gathered in large numbers. Addressing the audience, he said his choice to serve was inspired by years of direct engagement with the needs of the people.

“I chose humanity over luxury,” he told the gathering, adding that he deliberately channelled his resources into community development rather than an extravagant lifestyle. He pointed to interventions spanning the provision of transformers, solar lights, boreholes, road rehabilitation, scholarships and medical support for vulnerable residents across Kogi East.
Declaring his intention, he said, “Driven by patriotic duty, resourceful service, and a hopeful vision for our future, I hereby declare my intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in 2027.” He explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the nine local government areas, describing it as a response to the “humbling calls by our electorate, students, professionals and the many lives we have touched.”

He emphasised that his ambition goes beyond personal aspiration, stating, “This decision is not about personal ambition. It is about elevating Kogi East to a place of respect, influence, and tangible action.” He further stressed the need for active and impactful representation, noting that “Kogi East cannot afford silence” and that the district deserves “an energetic, smart, modern and compassionate voice.”
Idris also outlined his legislative vision, promising to pursue laws that would drive development and improve livelihoods. “Elect me, and I will deliver legislative leadership that moves bills from sponsorship to assent,” he said, adding that his focus would include education, infrastructure, job creation and security. He assured constituents that “our representation will translate into real, verifiable employment and the rise of a new generation of captains of industry.”
The event witnessed the presence of the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, who joined the gathering in solidarity. Addressing party executives, she commended the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party from the national to zonal levels for sustaining the party structure, even before her defection, and described Idris as “energetic and reliable,” recommending him to party leaders.
Speaking to the crowd outside the secretariat, she appreciated the people of Kogi East and urged them to join the PDP in large numbers, stressing that unity and grassroots mobilisation remain key to reclaiming political power in the state.
Several party stakeholders were present at the declaration, including the PDP Zonal Chairman, Hon. Igagwu Idris, the Ibaji Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Ajodo Egbunu David, the Party Chairman of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government and PDP State Financial Secretary, Hon. Idakwo Idris, the Zonal Chairman, Hon. Attai Achakuma, the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Paul Okwenya, as well as Hon. Umoru Tijani Aruwa and other party leaders.
The declaration drew a massive turnout of supporters, reflecting growing political momentum within the PDP in Kogi East as party faithful expressed optimism about the 2027 elections. Reaffirming his commitment, Idris called on all residents, regardless of political affiliation, to join the movement, saying, “Let us rebuild together. Let us win together. Let us rise together. Because progress is promised.”
