Nigeria’s Senate on Thursday confirmed the nomination of Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Senate gave its approval during plenary, following several hours of screening by the lawmakers.
Amupitan becomes the sixth substantive Chairman of INEC, succeeding Mahmood Yakubu, who has officially concluded his tenure as the INEC boss.
During his presentation, Amupitan, a distinguished lawyer from Kogi State and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos, pledged to collaborate with relevant institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission to enhance the nation’s electoral system.
