As Kogi state marks 34 years, we must pause to celebrate a rich tapestry of peoples—Igala, Ebira, Okun, Oworo, Ogori, Magongo, Bassa, Kakanda, and more. Our strength lies not in resources alone, but in how we unite to safeguard, nurture, and elevate one another.

A Confluence State

Kogi is a confluence where cultures, histories, and ambitions meet. Our diversity is a colorful palette that opens doors to cross-cultural collaboration, innovation, and a vibrant economy. The bonds that bind us in security, education, health, and dignity are stronger than temporary divides.

Resources and Unity

Kogi’s mineral and material wealth is vast ranging from petroleum, gas, limestone, talc, calcium carbonate, manganese, agro-wealth, one of the states with the highest deposit of solid mineral resources in Nigeria to its human capital. Yet what truly binds us is shared purpose: inclusive growth, accountable governance, and equitable benefit from our resources.

Path to Sustained Unity
We as a people must collectively:

  • Include all major ethnic groups in decision-making.
  • Promote intercultural education and youth programs.
  • Strengthen community policing with respect for rights.
  • Foster cross-cultural exchange through markets and festivals.
  • Ensure transparency to build trust across communities and authorities.

Respecting the Past, Building the Future

From the peaceful and harmonic relationship in the old Kabba Province, we learn that unity requires deliberate action by listening, compassionate leadership, and inclusive policies. Abundance is best enjoyed when shared equitably.

In conclusion, as we celebrate our dear and rich state today, let us reaffirm that Kogi’s diversity is our resilience and our future. May we work together in unity and hope for a state where every group thrives and every citizen feels valued, to the envy of other states in Nigeria.

Long Live Kogi state, and happy thirty four (34) years of a peaceful coexistence.

– Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon
