22,000 Households, 116,000 Individuals Captured in Kogi YESSO Single Register for Poor and Vulnerable

Kogi State Youths Employment and Social Support Operation, YESSO yesterday launched its Single Register, SR, to cater for the core poor and vulnerable in the state.
The agency also flag – off the Implementation of the Public Work Force, PWF, which is one of the agency’s Social Safety Net targeted at bridging the gap of unemployment in the society.
Flagging off the programs yesterday, the State governor, Yahaya Bello said the Single Register has become a “card Reader” for recording and attending to the needs of the core poor and vulnerable in the state.
He said the register has also assisted in eliminating the errors of the past in accessing data to deals with such kind of people.
Bello who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba said 4,000 beneficiaries of the PWF, will enjoy a monthly stipends of N7,500 development will also go a long way in containing the social vices that has bedeviled the society.
He said the state government will release N150 million to YESSO to assist the agency in carrying out its responsibility to the poor.
Speaking on the details of the SR, the State Head of Service, Mrs Deborah Ogunmola said 22,241 House holds and 116, 080 individuals were captured in the register.
She said, “International best practices in addressing social protection and vulnerability issues in the 21st century demands the use of a reliable and updated Single Register which is location specific for effective and efficient implementation devoid of error of inclusion and exclusion.
“This register include both geographical and community – based targeting approach by Kogi State YESSO using the World Bank model. The register had undergone series of vetting an validation by the world Bank before it was subsequently approved.
“Kogi YESSO was able to undertake three rounds of both geographical and community – based targeting and have succeeded in capturing the 21 LGAs in the state into this Single Register.
“This Register composed of three volumes has a total of 22,241 households with 116,080 individuals across the 21 LGAs of Kogi State. Kogi YESSO IS currently expanding it”.
However, the World Bank has urged the state to ensure the implementation of the Single Register, said, that is the only way efforts expended in gathering the data can be justified.
Country Director of the World Bank,  Prof. Foluso Okunmadewa who was represented by Mr. Fanen Ade who spoke on behalf of the organisation eulogised the State government for the development, said the state was the first in Nigeria to have a detailed Single Register to cater for the poor and vulnerable.
“No doubt, the Single Register will go a long way in the reducing poverty and unemployment in the state. But its validity is best when its put to use.
“Many times when such data like this are captured, political intrigues and other purposes will made it be jettisoned whenever its meant to be used.
“We therefore urged you to make effective usage of the Single Register through which interested individuals can have confidence to invest in the core poor and vulnerable in our land.”
YESSO State Coordinator, Mr Noah Alilu said the agency will continue to update the Single Register whenever necessary in order to cater for those not yet captured.
