For 36 years since the creation of Kogi State, Kogi West has remained the only senatorial district yet to produce a democratically elected Governor. The time to correct this historical imbalance is 2027—not 2031.
The call for Kogi West is not rooted in sentiment or political rivalry. It is anchored on the enduring principles of equity, justice, fairness, inclusion, and the long-term stability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State.
Kogi West has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the APC, contributed significantly to the party’s electoral successes, and produced accomplished leaders with distinguished records in public service. With statesmen such as Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, Distinguished Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, and many other experienced sons and daughters of the district, Kogi West possesses the competence, political maturity, and administrative capacity required to provide purposeful, inclusive, and progressive leadership.

The history of the APC in Kogi State cannot be written without acknowledging the landmark 2015 governorship election. The Prince Abubakar Audu–Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke ticket united the three senatorial districts and secured victory before the constitutional developments that followed the unfortunate passing of Prince Audu altered the course of events. That historic ticket represented one of the strongest political coalitions ever assembled in Kogi State and laid the foundation for the APC’s enduring dominance. Kogi West stood firmly with the party during one of its defining moments, demonstrating loyalty, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.
The Kogi Equity Alliance (KEA) is neither promoting division nor attacking any individual or political tendency. This is a peaceful, responsible, and legitimate advocacy founded entirely on equity, justice, fairness, and political inclusion. Correcting a 36-year democratic imbalance will strengthen party cohesion, deepen public confidence, and further consolidate the APC across Kogi State.
President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently demonstrated his commitment to rewarding loyalty, strengthening party unity, and promoting inclusive leadership. Supporting the emergence of a qualified APC candidate from Kogi West in the off-cycle 2027 governorship election would reflect these enduring principles and reinforce the APC’s reputation as a party that honours commitment, patience, competence, and sacrifice.
Beyond equity, supporting Kogi West is also a sound political strategy. Every section of Kogi State is more likely to work with greater enthusiasm when every senatorial district is confident that the APC offers equal opportunities to all. Such confidence will energise the grassroots, reduce internal tensions, strengthen reconciliation within the party, and position the APC for another convincing electoral victory.
The window to address this historical question is 2027. Deferring it until another electoral cycle would merely prolong an imbalance that has existed since the creation of the state. Resolving it now would demonstrate courageous leadership, reinforce internal democracy, and strengthen the APC’s moral authority.
As preparations begin for the 2027 elections, fairness should remain the guiding principle in the selection of candidates for the Governorship, National Assembly, and other elective offices. A balanced political arrangement will deepen party unity, encourage broader participation, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and secure lasting electoral success.
This appeal extends beyond Kogi West. It speaks to the character and credibility of the APC as a national institution. Political parties become stronger when loyal members believe that dedication, competence, sacrifice, and patience are ultimately recognised and rewarded. A fair decision in 2027 will strengthen public confidence in the APC and further reinforce President Tinubu’s legacy as a leader committed to justice, inclusion, national cohesion, and institutional fairness.
History remembers great leaders not only for the elections they win but also for the fairness of the institutions they strengthen. Supporting the emergence of the first democratically elected Governor from Kogi West in 2027 would stand as a lasting legacy of statesmanship, equity, and inclusive leadership.
The appeal before the National Leader of the APC and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is simple: let 2027 become the year Kogi completes its circle of equity. Every senatorial district should have a fair opportunity to produce a democratically elected Governor. Supporting Kogi West will not diminish any district; rather, it will strengthen unity, promote stability, consolidate the APC, and secure a brighter future for Kogi State.
For the sake of equity, justice, fairness, party unity, political stability, and the continued progress of Kogi State, 2027 should mark the historic emergence of the first democratically elected Governor from Kogi West.
Kogi West’s aspiration is not a request for special privilege. It is a principled appeal for fairness, equal opportunity, political inclusion, and the completion of Kogi State’s democratic journey.
