Governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kogi East Senatorial seat under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), citing sustained pressure from stakeholders and widespread calls for him to offer purposeful representation for the district.
Ajaka, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the decision followed months of extensive consultations with elders, political associates, youth groups, friends, and other critical stakeholders across Kogi East and beyond.
He disclosed that the consultations were largely focused on the future of Kogi East politics and the urgent need for quality representation, adding that the overwhelming encouragement from the people convinced him to answer the call to serve.

According to him, a recent visit by a respected delegation of Kogi East elders to his residence proved decisive, describing their counsel and unity of purpose as a strong reminder of the collective responsibility to advance the development of the area.
“In respect of the wishes of our people, in honour of the prevailing understanding among stakeholders, and in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and collective advancement, I have decided to answer this call,” Ajaka stated.
The APC chieftain said his aspiration is anchored on promoting stability and unity within the party, while also intensifying support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ensure the successful delivery of its mandate and lay a solid foundation for the President’s re-election in 2027.
Ajaka further pledged to sustain consultations with key stakeholders, including Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, assuring that every step in the process would reflect the collective will and best interest of the people of Kogi East.
He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing a path of unity, inclusion, and purposeful representation, expressing optimism that together, the people would build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi East.
