A socio-political organization, Kogi Mandate Group, has sent an appeal to a former Health Commissioner in Kogi State, Dr. Idris Omede, urging him to join the senate or governorship race in 2019.

In a statement signed by Ichado Arome Alewo, the group said her choice of Omede is borne out of genuine intention to attract people of impeccable character into political leadership and representation.

“In view of the ongoing maladministration in Kogi state and loss of confidence in current representatives of the people in the National Assembly, Kogi Mandate Group‎ has set up a high powered committee to approach Dr. Idris Omede to join the 2019 Kogi East Senate race and thereafter, 2019 Kogi governorship race”, he said.

The group described Omede as a fine gentleman imbued with sterling qualities required to move the state forward.
The group’s spokesperson expressed disappointment in the present political leadership, both at the state and federal levels. He said the current office holders do not represent the people of Kogi East as most of them were not product of direct electoral decisions.

The group assured the eastern flank of the state that the zone will be experience better representation if a technocrat in Omede’s mould, who is untainted in past public and private engagements, is projected into political leadership.
Omede, a former National President of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) is the current President, Association of Professional Bodies in Nigeria (APBN).
