Ramadan or Echane Festival?: Okene LG Stakeholders Reach Consensus

To avoid security breaches and possible clash between the celebrants of Echane festival and Ramadan activities in Okene, stakeholders of the Local Government have agreed to round-up the festival on 27th, a day to the commencement of Ramadan.

The decision to commence the traditional festival on 22nd May, earlier than stipulated, was announced by the Special Adviser to Okene Administrator on Media and Publicity, Abdulmumuni Abubakar.
According to Abubakar, the stakeholders also resolved to screen and regulate the number of masquerades to be issued government permits by the traditional rulers under the leadership of the Great Ohindase of Okengwe Ehi kingdom who is the custodian of the traditional festival in Okene Local government.
He explained that masquerades’ outings and activities will be monitored by constituted committees.
“The cultural union is expected to key into the activities of the traditional rulers and of course take instructions, guidelines as well as the modalities for the celebration from the traditional institution.”
“The Chief Administrator of Okene Local government Hon. (Mall.) Abdulrazaq Muhammad charged the two committees to work in synergy and ensure that, the security of lives and property of citizenry is given maximum priority during and after the six days celebration period,” he revealed.
