Zangon-Kataf Celebrates Leadership Transition With Ceremonial Turbaning

On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, Zangon-Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria, witnessed a momentous event at the Palace in Atak-Njei.

In a grand and historic ceremony, His Highness, Sir Dominic Gambo Yahaya, Agwatyap III, solemnly turbaned seven newly appointed Village Heads, including Atyoli Chechet-ishaya Bonet Yayock, as well as one Ardo Fulanin from Zango Urban.

This significant occasion marked the formal induction of these leaders into their respective roles, where they were entrusted with the noble responsibility of guiding their communities toward peace, prosperity, and unity.

The event began with a stirring address delivered by Mr. Samuel Gawan Mai-Dawa, who spoke on behalf of all the newly turbanned leaders.

He expressed deep gratitude for the honor bestowed upon them and acknowledged the weight of the responsibilities now placed on their shoulders.

In his speech, His Highness, the Agwatyap III, Sir Dominic Gambo Yahaya, offered an inspirational charge to the newly appointed Village Heads.

He urged them to remain just, inclusive, and fair in their dealings with all members of their communities.

“It is important for you to unite the people in your villages, to promote peace and progress,” Sir Dominic emphasized.

“You must not forget those who contested with you during the selection process. You must carry everyone along, promote justice, and serve with diligence.”

His message was clear: leadership is about serving with integrity, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected.

The Agwatyap III also touched on the importance of maintaining peaceful relationships between farmers and herders, a long-standing issue in the region.

He noted that “the peace in your communities will directly impact the success of agriculture, and harmonious relations between farmers and herders are key to avoiding conflict and ensuring bountiful harvests.”

This call for collaboration and mutual respect between these two vital sectors underscored the importance of unity for the future growth and prosperity of the area.

As the ceremony progressed, Sir Dominic Gambo Yahaya reminded the new leaders of their broader duty, not only to their villages but also to their district heads and the chiefdom.

He concluded his address with heartfelt wishes for their success, emphasizing the significance of their leadership in shaping the future of Zangon-Kataf.

“I wish you all a peaceful and successful tenure as you return to your villages,” he said, affirming the community’s confidence in their leadership.

The first session of the event concluded at 11:19 AM with a word of prayer by the Secretary of the District Head of Zangon Urban, marking the formal closure of the ceremony at the Palace.

Following the formal proceedings at the Palace, a vibrant procession took place, leading the newly turbanned leaders, accompanied by dignitaries, to the office of the District Head of Ungwan Gaiya, Sir Luke Yohanna Adankat.

This part of the ceremony was another significant moment in the day’s events, further reinforcing the unity and collaborative spirit among the region’s leadership.

The highlight of the day’s celebrations came with the Thanksgiving Service at the ECWA Gospel Church in Samaru Kataf.
