Yahaya Bello Pledges to Support State Electoral Commission

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has pledged support to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission,  KOSIEC, to enable them discharge their constitutional obligations to the people of the state.

Alh.  Bello disclosed this today in Lokoja while receiving the Chairman and other Commissioners of KOSIEC, saying his administration is poised to strengthen the commission to enable it conduct free, fair and credible elections.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Andrew Owonipa congratulated the Governor on his victory at the poll and his successful inauguration, expressing confidence in the Governor to bring the desired change to the masses of Kogi State. He called on the Governor to meet the logistics needs as well as capacity building drive of the Commission to make it efficient and productive.

The Governor, while responding, urged the Commission to purge itself of political affiliation and assured it of support on the part of government to address its needs. He promised to ensure the security of the Commission, stating that his government would not tolerate the use of police cover by people who are not entitled to it.

Alh. Bello urged the Commission to cooperate with the Head of Service to salvage public service from the negative effects of ghost workers in the state, saying in as much as government will help in capacity building program, profligacy in government agencies will not be a tradition under his watch.
