I am Hon. Dada Olusheyi whose sobriquet is “Ayeke Oninure” – a grassroot politician and former councilor in Yagba West LGA, Kogi State between year 2011 – 2013. As an aspirant for legislative position in Kogi State House of Assembly (Yagba-West Constituency) in the upcoming 2019 general election under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), I wish to succinctly elucidate my reasons for contesting and reiterate my plans for my constituency.
My sole aim for contesting for this seat is to bring about improvement in my constituents welfare and champion social justice. I strongly believe the attainment of these aforementioned goals will bring about improvement in the living standards and general wellbeing of the people of Yagba-West Constituency. It should be remembered that while serving as a councilor, I built a medical centre at Ward 02, Oke-Egbe to provide medical care services, improve maternal-child health, and sensitize the members of my ward on prevention and control of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, cholera, malaria etc.
Also, I plan to forge and foster a cordial relationship between constituents and myself. To achieve this mission, I plan to create a conducive atmosphere for exchange of ideas through organization of bi-annual constituency meetings. This participatory approach will be instrumental in ensuring the constituents are actively involved in planning, design, implementation and evaluation of constituency projects. If elected, I would use my office to facilitate collaboration with the executive arm of government to bring about infrastructural development and economic empowerment. The attainment of this plan would bring about far-reaching economic opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises. In addition, I would work tirelessly to formulate policies that engender welfarism, and bring prosperity to the people of Yagba West.
I plan to contribute significantly to education sector through the propagation of knowledge, reduction in illiteracy level and provision of financial support to students of Yagba-West Constituency. My major contribution would include but not limited to:
- Provision of scholarships to indigent students that will cut across Nigeria’s educational structure.
- Establishment of free educational coaching centres for learners preparing for external examinations such as Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE), WAEC, NECO, UTME etc.
- Provision of visual aids, teaching/instructional materials e.g multimedia components, textbooks, IP boards, desktop computers and laptops.
I believe these materials would add verisimilitude to learning and make the teaching and transfer of knowledge effective.
Regarding the agricultural sector, I plan to give out loans, purchase and distribute agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, improved seedlings and agrochemicals to create a boon for agricultural productivity, encourage farmers and assist in making foodstuffs available at affordable prices for the constituents.
The health sector would be given the proper attention it deserves. A look around the constituency clearly reveals decay in infrastructure and dearth of medical supplies in health care centres. To reverse this unpropitious trend and improve wellness and vitality among the constituents, I plan to embark on rehabilitation of existing health care centres as well as construction of newer ones in areas with pressing needs – these medical centres will be well-equipped with medical facilities and pharmaceutical supplies. In addition, I will organize free annual eye treatment and sensitization project particularly for the aged citizens in Yagba-West constituency.
In summary, I admonish electorates in the upcoming general elections to desist from illicit acts such as exchanging their voting rights for pecuniary gains. Such acts serve undermine the collective sensibilities of electorates and rob them of their rights to hold their representatives accountable. I have no doubt that this time around the electorates will prioritize capacity, capability, uncheckered antecedents and preparedness above any form of financial inducement which serves to erode the foundation of our democratic system.
