Member representing Yagba federal constituency of Kogi state, Hon. Leke Abejide, has distanced himself from viral reports that he promised to write petitions against any local government chairmen who fail to utilize allocations from federation account judiciously.

In a statement on Friday, the Rep Member said he was quoted out of context.

He noted that what he said during a meeting with members of Yagba Action Group (YAG) in Abuja was a counsel to chairmen on proper management of resources and peoples perception.

“My attention has been drawn to newspaper reports in which I was wrongly quoted as saying I would write petitions against chairmen of local governments in my constituency if funds allocated from the federation account to the councils are not judiciously utilized.

“I wish to use this opportunity to say the reporter quoted me out of context in the error report and also to clarify my true position.

“For the record, I did not say I will write petitions against the chairmen. It is true that on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, i received members of Yagba Action Group, consisting professionals and technocrats from my constituency in my house in Abuja, where socio-economic and developmental issues of concern to my people in Yagba Federal Constituency were tabled and deliberated on.

“I did not say I will write petitions against the chairmen.

“I said if people could write a petition against me on a project I executed with my own money, which is not captured in the budget, how much more those with government money, if projects are not executed.

“I indeed said that I will advise the council chairmen against not utilising local government funds, otherwise our people are known for writing petitions,” he said.
