Women Premier League: Confluence Queens Dedicates Win Over Nasarawa Amazons to Late Striker, Eunice

Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja have dedicated their 2-0 win over Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia on Saturday to late striker Eunice Akpan who passed away on Sunday 9th August, 2014 after a brief illness.

Highlight of the game witnessed a minute silence observed at the start of the match in memory of late striker Eunice Akpan, as the Women football family mourned the sad and unexpected exit of the 19-year-old Akwa Ibom-born player.

The week 20 Nigeria Women Premier League encounter between both sides was highly contested but goals scored in the 23rd and 88th minute by Idorenyi Isaac and Mary Olaitan respectively both of Edo State origin helped Confluence Queens make it three wins in successive matches.

Chairman of the Lokoja-based side, Mallam Abdul Adama insists his side gave too much respect to their counterparts in the first half but admits the win is vital for the ambition of his ladies.

“I’m not really satisfied with the team performance especially in the first half, but the changes in the second half brought balance in the game and I’m pleased we got the vital win,” he stated.

Meanwhile, super sub Olaitan Mary dedicated her long range effort to the deceased.

“My goal is for Eunice Akpan, she deserves to be honoured, my aim was to score and dedicate it to her and am happy my desire was fulfilled, we”ll all miss her,” the box-to-box midfielder added.
