As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, remains one of the most influential political figures in Kogi State and across the country. His emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kogi Central has further energized his supporters, who view his candidacy as a significant opportunity to strengthen the district’s representation at the National Assembly.

Political observers maintain that Bello’s enduring popularity has remained largely unaffected by opposition criticism, with many supporters arguing that attempts to diminish his political standing through media attacks, political blackmail, and propaganda have failed to gain meaningful traction among grassroots voters.

According to analysts, Bello’s candidacy continues to receive overwhelming acceptance across Kogi Central, where many constituents are increasingly advocating for what they describe as more impactful, strategic, and development-oriented representation. They argue that legislative representation should extend far beyond occasional empowerment programmes and the distribution of motorcycles, tricycles, and other material incentives.

Many stakeholders insist that the primary responsibility of a senator is to sponsor quality legislation, influence national policies, attract federal projects, facilitate employment opportunities, and secure sustainable development initiatives capable of transforming the lives of constituents. They contend that Kogi Central deserves a representative with the political experience, influence, and national network required to effectively advance the interests of the district on the national stage.

Supporters frequently point to Bello’s record in government, particularly in the areas of security, youth inclusion, infrastructure development, and governance reforms. They argue that these achievements have positioned him as a leader capable of translating executive experience into effective legislative representation.

Across communities within Kogi Central, reports from party stakeholders, youth groups, women’s organizations, traditional institutions, and grassroots mobilizers indicate growing enthusiasm surrounding Bello’s candidacy. Many believe that his election to the Senate would provide the district with stronger political visibility, enhanced federal presence, and greater opportunities for socio-economic development.

Political commentators have also noted that Bello’s influence extends well beyond the boundaries of Kogi State. His active participation in strategic political engagements and electioneering activities across the country has reinforced perceptions of his growing national relevance and acceptance within the APC. His role in supporting party successes in other states is frequently cited by supporters as evidence of his political reach and capacity to build alliances that could benefit Kogi Central.

While opposition voices continue to challenge his candidacy, Bello’s supporters insist that electoral victories are ultimately determined by grassroots support, political structures, and public confidence rather than social media narratives. They argue that the massive reception he continues to receive during political engagements across the district reflects a strong connection with the people and a level of acceptance that cannot be ignored.

Analysts further observe that the growing support for Bello’s Senate bid is driven by a widespread desire among many constituents to see Kogi Central occupy a more prominent position in national politics. According to them, the district requires a representative capable of competing effectively for federal opportunities and delivering the kind of transformative representation witnessed in other senatorial districts across the country.

As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, many supporters remain convinced that Yahaya Bello represents the best option for advancing the interests of Kogi Central. To them, his candidacy symbolizes experience, political strength, effective leadership, and a renewed opportunity for the district to secure greater developmental benefits through purposeful representation.

For many at the grassroots, the conversation is no longer about whether Yahaya Bello will contest; rather, it is about rallying support to ensure that his candidacy translates into electoral victory. Their message remains consistent: Kogi Central deserves influential and result-driven representation, and they believe Yahaya Bello is prepared to provide it.
