Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, has said the legislators decided to increase the 2018 budget proposal of the executive from N147 billion to N151 billion to cater for some under-budgeted boards.

He was reacting to insinuations that the executive manipulated the lawmakers to jerk up the budget.
Kolawole, who disclosed this on Wednesday during an interactive session with the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kogi State chapter in Lokoja, said: “The decision of the House to increase the state budget from N147 billion to N151 was not influenced as being rumoured.
“The House has the constitutional responsibility to appropriate the budget either to increase or reduce, as the case may be.
“During the budget defence, it was discovered that little amount of money was budgeted for Kogi State University and Management Board.
“They appealed to the House that more money should be appropriated for the purpose of courses accreditation and other miscellaneous needs of the institution.
“N500 million was added for School of Medical Sciences; same for other areas that needed more funds. The importance of education cannot be over-emphasised.”
