Chairman of Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Eri has reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensure a hitch free and credible council elections.
Eri made this known during a chat with newsmen in Lokoja on Friday.
He announced that, drawing from his experience while monitoring council elections in other states, KOSIEC will act differently by providing separate ballot boxes for the chairmanship and councillorship elections to make the exercise more convenient and sorting easier. This, he said, will encourage more voters to come out on the day of the election.
The chairman said arrangements are in top gear to ensure that the elections are successful, assuring that will declare the people’s mandate at the end of the exercise.
Eri said the Commission had set the ball rolling by going on sensitisation tour of the grassroots and had assurances of a victorious outing.
He also said the Commission had been carrying along the various political parties, the media, focal points for the traditional and religious groups, the youth, security agencies and other stakeholders with indications there would be a very good electoral accomplishments.
Eri revealed that radio jingles would soon be on air for more sensitization and other programmes would follow as slated in accordance with the drawn time table.
He believed youth restiveness would be minimal during the period noting that the youth constitute a greater percentage of councillorship candidates and would not want to disrupt the process; while still appealing to the general public to remain calm throughout.
Speaking on compliance with covid-19 protocols, Eri said the Commission would provide face masks, water and sanitizers for its staff and ad hoc officials. He appealed to corporate bodies and stakeholders to complement the effort.
