It has taken some time for me to distill my thoughts and pen my tribute to the man of the people, Mr Ben Owoleke on the auspicious occasion of his 60th birthday.

Mr Ben is a man of remarkable composite and succinctly words are insufficient to capture the breadth of my thoughts, I will try to give you the essence as I write about someone who is a seasoned community developer, who is thorough and unassuming, dogged, adventurous and dependable; selfless and diligent in any task he embarks upon; devoted to worthy causes; highly performing and eminently practical personality; human resource manager par excellence. In a world generally believed to have become so degenerated, debauched and perverted, it is usually gratifying to see people whose thoughts, deeds and lifestyle daily exhibit nobility and strength of character.

They may not necessarily be the usual newsmakers whose every action attracts the headlines of major newspapers and the bulk of airtime of electronic media. Their tribe may be in the minority. They may not be laureled with countless wreathes and garlands of honour. For all they do, they may remain unsung and unseen for the better part of their lives. But they remain unfazed, doing what they believe in serving humanity and doggedly pursuing their avowed intent to leave the world a better place than they met it.

They are the oasis of hope in the desert of fear and despair that our world is fast turning to. An island of integrity and rectitude in the world’s sea of filth and lucre. They live by the golden rule, doing untoothers what they want others do unto them; and even more.

As you celebrate this milestone birthday Sir, I wish you, your amiable wife and your children many happy returns, good health, long life, joy, blessings, higher status and continuous successful service to humanity.

Igba odun, odun kan.

Let me round up with the words of Vince Lombardi, “It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever – the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it.”

Join me in appreciating a man of penetrating ideas, an outstanding leader who has proved himself beyond any reasonable doubt that he deserves such honour.

It is on this note, I join other people of goodwill to felicitate with a worthy son of Oweland popularly known as “Uncle Ben”.
