Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, has signed the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Bill into Law as part of his continuous efforts to see to the growth of the private sector participation in infrastructural development.
The Kogi PPP Law 2014, according to the governor, will give legal and institutional backing for the sustenance of PPP projects in the state.
The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on PPP, Mallam Abdul Adama, noted that the purpose of the law was to create platform for transparent and competitive private sector participation in infrastructural development and provision of public service.
Adama, who initiated the move for Kogi State to have a PPP law upon his appointment as Special Adviser in 2012, assured investors of Kogi State government’s commitment to transparent and effective public private partnerships.
The Senior Special Assistant on PPP, Prince Jambright Sumanu, added that the law is a good foundation for PPP in the State to give room for continuity of projects. Prince Jambright stressed that the PPP law will add credence to ongoing and future negotiations with private investors.
The Kogi State PPP law empowers the state governor to establish a PPP Bureau that will help midwife PPP transactions in the state. A 13-man governing board will also be constituted for effective operations.
The Law seeks to create the legal framework to facilitate and regulate the financing, development, and maintenance by the private sector of otherwise public projects and services.
