The Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Theresa May has sent her apologies to Kogi-born scholar, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu over her absence at his book launch.
In a mail from her correspondence officer, the Prime Minister said she was unable to honour Dr. Audu’s invitation due to enormous pressures on her diary.
“Dear Dr Audu, I am writing to thank you for your correspondence of 27 August, inviting the Prime Minister to be the Special Guest of Honour at a discussion panel and book launch on 11 October.
“The Prime Minister greatly appreciates your kind invitation. However, owing to the enormous pressures on her diary she will sadly be unable to attend on this occasion. It is with much regret that I must therefore send her apologies. I hope the event proves to be a great success. With best wishes,” she wrote.
In his response, Dr. Audu acknowledged that the mail from Theresa May is the peak of recognition and solidarity to his research endeavours at global arena.
“Thank you to Rt. Hon. Theresa May, the Hon. Prime Minister of United Kingdom. Your Excellency, the apology was accepted with all humility and delight at the discussion panel/book launch event in Liverpool UK. Verily, just as Your Excellency prayed, the event was a great success in Liverpool!,” he wrote.
Dr. Audu’s new book, ‘Police Corruption and Community Policing in Nigeria: A Sociological Case Study’, was presented to the global audience at Hilton Hotel, Liverpool City Centre, United Kingdom on October 11.
Commenting, a former Head of Sociology Department at University of Ilorin and immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor at Kogi State University Anyigba, Professor Steve Metiboba said: “That the Prime Minister, UK, personally identified with the Book Launch is symptomatic of the international appeal which the well-researched ‘monograph’ has earned for itself.  To my mind, this is kudos to the intellectual horizon which this scholar’s work has bequeathed on the black race!”
