Two Kogi Players To Represent Nigeria At World Youth Chess Championship in Uruguay

The Nigeria Chess Federation have selected two Kogi state U18 players, Aishat Suleman Azumi and Emmanuel Atawodi to represent Nigeria at the World Youth Chess Championship which hold in Montevideo, Uruguay from 16th to 26th September, 2017.

In a statement signed by the Secretary General of NCF, Olabisi Aziz said the federation had decided to nominate both players based on their outstanding performances at various national competitions.

Head coach, Kogi state chess Association, Innocent Ichado expressed happiness over the selection of the Confluence state player. Ichado who won one silver and one bronze at the 2017 National Junior chess championship held in Lagos noted that the junior players are ready to make the state and country proud in Uruguay.

“I am grateful to God, Governor Yahaya Bello and his chief of staff for giving us the platform to exhibit our hidden talent. The state was able to sponsor us to the National Junior championship in Lagos after a very long time been absent. As you know her excellency, the wife of the governor is our patron and she always show concerns” said Ichado.

“The trip to Uruguay means a lot for the players and I’m confident they will excel because Aishat and Atawodi are very excellent players” he ended.

Ichado who is currently unemployed has groomed junior chess players for Kogi state winning over 20 medals.
