Saturday 7th May, 2016 will continue to be fresh in the minds of students, graduates and staff of the University of Jos not because it was a day for the official Inauguration of the Kogi state Chapter of the University of Jos Alumni Association but  a day the Ohimege of Koton Karfe, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Abdulrasaq  Isah Koto, who is also the Chairman, Lokoja/Kogi traditional Council lectured the University of Jos family on the rich culture and tradition of the people of his kingdom.

The Monarch though a University of Jos trained theatre and Communication artist, on that day he turned to be a historian per excellence. For close to two hours he held his audience with his special oratory ability and lectured them on the history of the Koton-Karfe people from how it all started to this present time. A first time visitor to Kogi state will be quick to come to conclusion that the word AGABAIDU is a salutation for royalty as the small, big and mighty at the event all greeted the Ohimege with joy and acceptability. As he progresses in making his points, the crowd at interval acknowledged his deposition with the AGABAIDU greetings. Little wonder Philosophers of the old always insist that “a monarch that is well accepted by the people, will always led and direct the people with ease and his reign will witness peace and development”. This is the case in the Kotonkarfe Kingdom, the reign of the present Ohimege has continuously brought peace and development to the area.

Before rounding up his lecture, His Royal Majesty did not forget to make appeal to inventors to come and explore the abundant potentials of his Kingdom in the area of tourism, commerce, agriculture and solid minerals. He also used the event to appeal to the management of Skye Bank Nigeria PLC for the opening of one of its branches in the area through the bank’s Executive Director for Northern Operations Mr. Idris Yakubu who was part of the University of Jos delegation to the royal Reception. His Royal Majesty also particularly used the opportunity to call on the people of Kogi state to be peaceful and embrace all policies of Government capable of transforming the state to one of the leading states among the comity of states while he appealed to them to live decently.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai and National President of the University of Jos Alumni Association, DCGP Retired Salau Momodu both described the traditional ruler as a very good ambassador of the University. They said the University is known for producing global best leaders a such the case of the Ohimege is an added boaster to the University. They also described him as a peace builder and a traditional ruler with the burning desire of service and appealed to his subjects to continue to support and cooperate with him. A special award “2016 Distinguished Alumni Award” was   presented to AGABAIDU at the event in appreciation of his contribution to humanity through his leadership style which is making the University proud.

Many sons and daughters of the Kingdom attended the reception from all works of life; politics, business, traditional class, civil service, in fact, it was a roll call of who is who in the kingdom. While the Kogi state Chapter of University of Jos was fully represented with a large delegation among whom are Hon. Edward Onoja, the Chief of staff to the Kogi state Governor; Mr. John Amobeda, the Registrar of the Kogi state College of Education (Technical) Kabba; Dr. Gabriel Musa, the Programme Director of KOSACA, Dr. Uwodi Alabi, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Blood Transfusion Services and Hon. Oladipo Makakese Bayode, the state Chairman of the Alumni Association to mention but a few.
