Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has dismissed the vote of no confidence allegedly passed on him by the state chapter of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the antics of self centred politicians within the party who, being allergic to change, are bent on holding the state down with the same old ways of doing things.
A chieftain of the APC, Hon. Ben Adaji who reportedly claimed to be speaking on behalf of the party leadership in the state had told journalists in Lokoja that the decision was taken in a meeting held at the instance of the party organs, where it was agreed that Governor Bello should resign on grounds of incompetence and abandonment of party organs in the state.
But reacting to the purported vote of no confidence passed on him, Bello, while noting that, like those in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), some politicians in his party don’t want change in the state, wondered why any right-thinking person would want to cast aspersions on his person, as well as his administration when he was just barely three months in office.
The governor spoke when a delegation of Ebira Senior Academics, a forum made up of senior lecturers cut across various institutions of higher learning in the country, led by its chairman, Prof. SA Garba paid him a solidarity visit in Abuja.
Fielding questions from journalists soon after he met with the university dons, Bello who noted that those mounting opposition against him in Kogi State lack understanding of who a true politician is, added that it was by God’s design that he became governor and as such, must continue to do God’s will and what the people of Kogi want.
