Kogi based human rights activist, Muhammed Asiya Iganya has decried the spate of violence against women in the society.

Expressing her displeasure, Asiya stated that the widespread sexual assault and violence against women are severe human right violation.

She lamented that in spite multi-facet campaign and rallies towards nipping the ugly trend in the bud, girls and boys still experience gender base-violence in this 21st century.

The feminist writer expressed displeasure on the increasing recent cases of rape and violence against women in the country and beyond.

On the backdrop of the murder of a University of Benin nursing student, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa and another 18-year old lady, Barakat Bello, in her country home, Ibadan, Asiya said “one thing we should know is that, what is not good for the goose is as well not edible for the gander. This is to say, if you incidentally find your sister in such a gory and sorrowful situation, would you display an element of happiness and amusement, the answer will ostensibly be emphatic no”.

“The question that remain to be answered now is; why are we doing something that would put the victim into emotional trauma or possibly cause death? How much is the services of commercial sex workers if our libido can’t be controlled?”

According to her, more than 40 percent of women experience physical and sexual violence assault and violence throughout their life time.

“Sexual assault and rape are extremely traumatizing with life long repercussions for the victims health and well being.

“Women who have experienced violence resulting from intimacy are significantly susceptible to uncontrollable consumption of alcohol, suffer from depression, or acquire HIV or other sexual transmitted diseases”.

She urged the 21st century girls to be decent in their daily life, character, dressing and be wary of male counterpart that derived joy in having carnal knowledge of ladies and display of questionnable characters.
