Senator Smart Adeyemi Flags Off Health Insurance Scheme for 1000 Pregnant Women in Kogi West

Senator Smart Adeyemi (Kogi West – APC) has flagged off an extensive health insurance scheme for no fewer than 1000 pregnant women across the seven local government areas of the senatorial district.

While flagging off the scheme at Primary Healthcare Centre in Lokoja on Tuesday, Senator Adeyemi said the intervention was initiated to compliment Governor Yahaya Bello’s aggressive effort to enhance healthcare delivery in Kogi state.

The federal lawmaker explained that the health insurance scheme will cover the pregnant women from conception through antenatal and delivery.

He added pregnant women who have to go through operation will be adequately catered for under the scheme.

The Senator called on pregnant women across the seven local government areas of Kogi West to come out and register for the scheme to enable them access free ante-natal care and free drugs for a period of nine months.

Motivated by the establishment of primary health insurance scheme by Kogi state government, Senator Adeyemi added that the next healthcare insurance scheme would launched for aged people from age 70 and above.

He announced his plan to revive the school bursary intervention for students studying in tertiary institutions by October 2021.

Adeyemi introduced the bursary scheme for students during his previous terms in the senate between 2007 and 2015. Thousands of students in Kogi West senatorial district benefited from the multi-million Naira scheme.

The Secretary to Kogi State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade commended Senator Adeyemi’s health insurance initiative.

Ayoade praised Adeyemi for his concern for women during the crucial stages of their pregnancy.

She called on other lawmakers and all political office holders in the state to emulate the good gesture of Senator Smart Adeymi whom she described the man of the masses.
