It is barely two months since Senator Ahmed Ogembe was inaugurated as the senator representing Kogi Central senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate. He has since settled down and devoting all his energy and resources in making sure that those who voted him in are not short-changed in anyway by any means. His popularit y and acceptability by the people was evident by the resounding reception that was accorded him when he visited his constituency recently on a thank you visit.
Before now, the people of Kogi central Senatorial district were denied the full essence of representation in the red chamber of the National Assembly by those they queued under the rain and sun to vote into office. Accessing them becomes a big issue as they tend to run away from those who gave them the mandate. The people struggle to get the least thing a senator can do for his constituents; letter of recommendation and a little lobby for job placement. One will wonder why it is difficult for those in the recent past to recommend people to be gainfully employed in government MDA’s. The reason is not farfetched, they placed personal interest above the interest and benefits of their constituents, they will rather chase contracts and business opportunities than looking for a way to impact those who voted them into office. Employment slots meant for Kogi central senatorial districts were easily taken by other districts because there was nobody to fight for them. Those dark days are now over as the people of Kogi central have found a man who is redefining the essence of representation at the centre.
The open door policy of Senator Ogembe is second to none in the 8th assembly as it can only be liken to that of the late political juggernaut in Kogi Central, Senator A.T Ahmed. This no doubt have attracted the people from the central who has been trooping to the office of the Senator since his inauguration on March 2nd 2016 with one form of problem or the other that require his attention and he has not found any reason to avoid them, not even fatigue or the huge financial implication associated with it. It is on record that Senator Ogembe is one of the few Senators who have to close at a very late hour because he has to attend to the last person waiting to see him and he is always willing to assist all the time.
With the calibre of men like Senator Ogembe who personified sacrifice and service to humanity in the Senate, I make bold to say that it is the beginning of a new dawn in Kogi Central as the man of the moment will go all out the bring home the much needed divined of democracy which has eluded his people in the recent past. He has recently identified lack of portable water across the five local governments of the senatorial districts and he is currently taken steps to solve them. Very soon, we will begin to see the results of his efforts to bring succour to his constituents. We owe him support and prayers as his success will transform Kogi central positively to an enviable height.
