The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on his victory at the Supreme Court.
This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to the media by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.
Friday’s judgement by the Supreme brings to an end a post-election case instituted against the Governor and INEC by the opposition in the election held last year.
Rt Hon Umar, who described the court’s pronouncement as a further demonstration of the the role of the judiciary as an impartial umpire, said justice has finally been served and closed the long chapter of electoral tussle which began since the conclusion of the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.
He praised their Lordships for the courage displayed in taking a critical look at the facts before them without emotion, which informed their sound and thorough judgement to put a seal on the matter.
The Speaker further applauded Governor Ododo for his show of courage and commitment to the administration’s set objectives, stressing that it takes a man of compassion like the governor to be tenacious and concentrate on providing good governance through adequate welfare for Kogi citizens despite the disruptive efforts of the opposition in the state.
He expressed belief that the Governor would not be deterred by any challenge as the interest of ordinary citizens of the state and good governance that takes care of their basic needs like social welfare and improved infrastructure across the state as his priority.
He used the occasion to assure the opposition that the doors of the current administration remains open and that their suggestions and ideas as well as constructive criticisms that would contribute to good governance would be welcomed.
The Speaker said members of the Kogi State House of Assembly under his leadership are determined to contribute their quota through pro-people laws for the betterment of the state and its people.
