In a bid to alleviate the suffering of teachers, Sanni Idakwo Philips has introduced an interest-free conditional cash credit scheme for teachers in Dekina and Bassa local government areas of Kogi state.
The scheme is in collaboration with the Dekina and Bassa chapters of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
Sanni Idakwo Philips stated that the scheme is his personal contribution to ensuring that teachers live above poverty levels in these local governments.
While briefing newsmen in Dekina, on Monday, at the flag-off of the scheme, Sanni Idakwo Philips said the scheme is designed to compliment efforts of government. As teachers can have access to credit from as low as N5,000 and as much as N20,000.
He stated that no government can shoulder the burden of teachers’ welfare alone. He pledged his continuous support for the masses in Dekina and Bassa local government areas.
“This is just the beginning. Teachers in Dekina and Bassa local governments can count on my continuous support to their welfare. No government can shoulder the welfare of people single-handedly. I call on well-meaning Nigerians, especially from Kogi State, to buy into this scheme,” he said.
About 100 teachers received cash from the scheme on Monday. Credit received was based on individual teacher’s request.
Sanni Idakwo Philips confirmed that an additional 100 teachers will be paid on Friday.
In their separate remarks, Comrade Andrew John Akpa and Comrade Dauda Agayame, the chairmen of NUT in Dekina and Bassa respectively, thanks Sanni Idakwo Philips for his timely intervention. They called on other illustrious sons and daughters of the area to emulate him.
